Happy Halloween!

Well, it's always a mistake to buy Halloween candy too far in advance of this holiday! Who doesn't dip into the stash, saying "I'll just have one of these little, teeny-tiny Three Musketeers"? And two days later the bag seems to be getting quite empty!
So.... Do zombies eat popcorn with their fingers? No, they eat the fingers separately!
The weather report for today is just what you hope for if you live way up here in Vermont (40 minutes from the Canadian border). Sunny and 65 degrees today so it will be perfect for the kiddies in their costumes by late this afternoon. I can remember many Halloweens wearing a costume over winter clothes. Today should be just great!
A happy and safe day to all.

Lake Placid (NY) Daytrip

Yesterday was a lovely day for a daytrip to Lake Placid (NY) - home of Whiteface Mountain, where I learned to ski at the ripe age of about 5. My dad was a skier and he put all 6 of his kids on skis ata very early age. All but one of us enjoyed winters in the North Country skiing as kids into adulthood. It was fun to take a day from work and travel to that area yesterday with one of my sisters and another friend. We were determined to have lunch at one of the last remaining HoJo restaurants in the country, and we did! It was a hot turkey sandwich all around!!! Remember the "Tom Turkey" on the kids menu? Not much has changed except we sure did miss the waitresses in their startched up turquois uniforms and aprons. Nowadays it's black jeans, black oxford shirt and running shoes. Just not quite the same... but then again, what stays the same for 40 years? Nada.
Same HTS as 40 years ago! Yummy.
So, I had my arsenal of Los Lonely Boys and deSol CDs and was hoping to rock out the ride but 3 women in a Volvo station wagon... it was just talk, talk, talk the whole way. So, sadly no Los Lonely Boys this trip! I guess I'll have to save that kind of roadtrip for my Boston Loopies and deSoldiers. :)
So, hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go after 4 days off. A great day to all!

Red Sox & Honey Bees

Well, all I can say this morning is GO SOX! Congrats to the Boston Red Sox on their 2nd World Series title in 4 years. I've never been much of a baseball fan and watching the game on TV is a real challenge for me. Why you ask? Well, what's with all the SPITTING? Having an up-close- and-personal view of all the players spitting like there was no tomorrow just about makes me feel sick - literally! I'm sorry but I think it's a digusting habit. And the wads of gum and/or chewing tobacco is just bad. I think some yoga might help cause these guys are so stressed from the very minute they hit the field! Relax a little, guys! And, why do boys/men spit all the time.... and girls/women don't seem to spit much?

I get a kick out of watching Manny Ramirez - such a cutie, and miss our expatriot, Johnny Damon. So, let's cheer for the Red Sox and, Mamma's, don't let your boys grow up to be spitters!!! Amazingly, the adorable and talented Daisuke Matsuzaka ... didn't see him spit once! Maybe it's not considered acceptable (or bad manners?) in Japan. Nice.

Watched Nature on PBS last night on the decline of the bee populations around the world! Another frightening occurance - nature out of balance. You can get more information at www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/bees/. Be(e) afraid, bee very afraid!

Have a great day!

Article in current Rolling Stone - on global warming

I just read an interesting, and slightly depressing, article "The Profit" on James Lovelock, an eminent scientist, on global warming (Nov.1, 2007 issue). Are we too late to save ourselves?

On another note... silly thought for today... why do hot dogs come 10 to a package but the rolls only come 8 to a package?

About Me

My photo
Oh, enough about ME! Well, if you really want to know...... music is a passion, and luckily I work for a performing arts center! Favorite bands to enjoy live are Los Lonely Boys, Alejandro Escovedo, and deSol. Art is also a passion (I co-curate and manage a small gallery). Love photography and now enjoy the instant gratification of digital! I'm a voracious reader and love to tuck into a really good book. Usually have 2-3 going at once. Favorite mags include Paste, RS, Relix, Real Simple, the New Yorker. If the weather is less than inviting on a Sunday, I've been known to spend hours at B&N just reading - everything! Love to dance, love walking. I have 3 fantastic adult "kids" and 1 fabulous 10 y/o grandson named Blue.
